Football Manager 2009 on the NC10

Updated Netbook Guide for Football Manager 2010 is here!

While I’m away from home, I’ve been looking for something to play on my NC10 that’s reasonably absorbing. I decided on Football Manager 2009, and set about getting it installed.

Installing worked fine, patching worked fine, and activating worked fine (as you might expect). What didn’t work was actually playing the game… Every time I launched the program, it would appear as a process in the task manager, but no window would appear. If I tried launching the program again, I got the error message:

Football Manager 2009 is already running.

I researched the issue, and eventually found a forum of NC10 owners. They suggested running the game with the following flags: -windowed -small_screen.

To do this, you need to right click on a shortcut to Football Manager, and go to Properties. Then, in the Shortcut tab, after where it says Target, it will have the location of the program (“C:/Program Files/…”. Add the -windowed -small_screen after the location, outside the quotes and with a space between the location and -windowed as well as a space between -windowed and -small_screen.

My shortcut target is as follows:

“C:Program FilesSports InteractiveFootball Manager 2009fm.exe” -windowed -small_screen

After making this change, the game starts up. The only problem is that I cannot click Preferences without the game crashing.

So there you have it – Football Manager 2009 on the Samsung NC10.

And now please excuse me — I’ve got a football team to manage!

Hello! Good post William, i had to do this with FM 08 on my NC10.

I was wondering anyways, how does 2009 run on the NC10?

    Cheers

It runs very smoothly indeed. The match engine doesn’t work, but everything else does. With a medium or small database, and few leagues, it’s very playable, almost as fast as on a desktop.

  • Ky

Awesome, i never use the match engine anyways i’ll stick with the text.

Thanks alot for your quick reply, i’ll have to purchase this.

But FM 2010 is out on Friday right? I wonder if that will work on the NC10 minus the match engine…

Yeah. I’ll be installing Football Manager 2010 on my NC10, and I’ll post the results on the blog soon after. I’d wait and install 2010, seeing as how it’s coming out so soon. I’m guessing it run the same or better.

Thankyou soooooooooooo much! Just persuaded me to get it! :)

I also found the below on a helpful forum! Hope it helps!

“Just to let everyone know I finally got Football Manager 2009 working on my NC10. I put “C:Program FilesSports InteractiveFootball Manager 2009fm.exe” -small_screen -windowed in the target part of the Football Manager shortcut and the game works fine. The 3D match engine even works well enough on low detail (which looks exactly like high detail to me anyway) at mid game speed or lower (too jerky when its set faster). The only thing that won’t work is the preferences menu, the game crashes if you try to use it… To change preferences to what I wanted I had to change preferences on my main PC and copy the game and option files over the NC10 install.

Oh and finally I’m using 1024×768 scrollable mode on the NC10 when I play Football Manager because I was having a problem with half time changes as the bottom 3 or 4 subs weren’t accesable at 1024×600.

Hope that’s of some help to someone.”
