Robert Bowling tweeted over the weekend that Infinity Ward has banned 2500 “confirmed cheaters” on the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. However, given that we don’t exactly know how many copies Modern Warfare 2 has sold, this figure could be anything from a massive to an insignificant proportion of players.
A developer of a popular hack has stated that while some users of their hack were banned, “as soon as something turns up we strive to get the ‘program’ back up and running as soon as possible.”
One of the problems that Infinity Ward hoped to solve through IWNet was cheating, but it seems that even with extra layers and the prospect of a VAC ban, hack developers are continuing to develop hacks and users are still willing to take the risk. It seems we’re still a long way off from the squeaky-clean future that Infinity Ward had planned.
